If you’ve seen Google’s latest innovation, the Nexus 4, it comes with a plethora of new features. The best and most interesting is an update to the camera. And I love the addition of PhotoSphere which allows users to take 360 degree panorama photos in all directions. It’s similar to Google Street View but for your own locations. Since this is available only on Android 4.2, which no device in the world has right now (God knows), some devs down at XDA have formulated a solution. Well, a temporary one. Just head down over and download the Android 4.2 Camera APK from HERE or HERE.
This ONLY works for rooted Galaxy Nexus users as of right now, although if you want, you can use other Android 4.2 features on your phone. Follow the source link below.
Instructions:
1. Download the 4.2Camera.zip file.
2. Place the zip file on the root of your phone’s storage.
3. Reboot into your recovery.
4. Just in case, make a backup.
5. Flash the 4.2Camera.zip file. (No need to wipe anything)
6. Once installed, reboot your phone.
7. Lastly, enjoy it!

Fine way of telling, and nice post to take data regarding my presentation subject,
which i am going to deliver in college.
Have 4.1.1 and it still won’t work. Gallery crashes. Any ideas? Really want this now that Gnex is done at Verizon.
May I ask which phone you attempted this on?
Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

There’s not much you can do from here. Luckily, we have this tutorial you can find at this link:
http://pakdroid.com/2012/11/13/how-to-android-4-2-update-for-galaxy-nexus-and-nexus-7-here-manual-download/
Just update your Galaxy Nexus to Android 4.2 using the mentioned .apk and you’ll get all the features. Let us know if your fruitful.
So this is the full 4.2 ROM or just the update from 4.1.1 to 4.2 (looks like that if I read right)?
I have CWM Touch. will that be a problem?
No wipe required?
When I sideloaded the .zip file, I did a complete wipe. (Make a nandroid backup.) If I may, why can’t you just install CM10? It would be a much better option.
Considered CM10 but I was trying NOT to have to wipe. Such a pain to have to reset everything back. But now that CNex is DOA on Verizon, I guess there will never be a real 4.2.1 JB coming from them.
Question about a Nandriod backup. If I do the buackup, then wipe, is the backup removed? Do I need to copy the backup files to off the phone?
You can do both actually. Consider CWM as your ROM (in computers). Those files will never be deleted. Make a Nandroid backup, and make a wipe, and only your visible GUI disappears, not the files stored on the ROM. How else would the device turn on then? To be on the safe side, though, you can copy the files off of your phone onto your desktop and add them later, but this is not necessary. CM10 is your best bet right now as you said 4.2.1 won’t be arriving to your CDMA Galaxy Nexus. You do realize, you can backup your call logs, text messages, photos, videos, etc. using free applications.
Thanks for the quick replies! Did not expect that.
I use Nova Launcher so I can backup the backup the home screens.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
No problem
Do you mind if we talk on email rather than using comments as our medium? And please do let me know. If you need the .zip file for CM10 for your phone or if you need step-by-step procedures, just hit me up.

This APK is strictly used for the Galaxy Nexus. You can check the the XDA site for more information.
